Thanks, and as long as its dark enough, you can use a long exposure ( 5 seconds-6 seconds) and any light (in this case lightning) will show up. but if its to light then it will be a solid white picture.

Thank everyone! @ Gods photographer: it has been a VERY long time since I shot this, but I believe it was a 10-15 second exposure, it was, for all practical purposes, pitch dark. A long shutter speed, will try to get as much light as it can, so if there had been, say, a street light nearby, it would have been a very bright picture, if not completely white! Let me just say, your going to shoot a LOT of junk before you get anything that is remotely good. And as my brother would say "Quality before Quantity".
